As researchers, educators, policy decision-makers and development practitioners, we have a responsibility to embrace the processes of change that information and communication technologies (ICTs) bring to teaching, learning, and livelihoods.

The Observatory's 180 qualitative and quantitative indicators address themes including the use, impact and sustainability of ICTs in African educational institutions.

Very simply - in the African schools that have access to ICTs, what is being done with them, and how can they contribute to the quality of teaching and learning?

How to use the Observatory

The Observatory is an open-access database for research on the pedagogical integration of ICT.

Three search functions are available:

  • Simple Search — allows you to browse indicators from institutions in a single country,
  • Advanced Search — allows you to create tables of indicators from multiple countries, and
  • Map Search — maps summary data from the institutions participating in the project.

You are highly encouraged to leave a comment, or suggest modifications to any indicator, please click on the associated icons throughout the Observatory, or contact
